Jesse Gourevitch is an economist at the Environmental Defense Fund. His research aims to understand the economic and financial risks associated with climate impacts and to inform state and federal policies that support households and communities in adapting to these risks. Jesse’s research primarily focuses on the intersection between flood risk and housing, insurance, and mortgage markets, and places a strong emphasis on evaluating distributional impacts among demographic and socioeconomic groups across the U.S.

Prior to joining EDF, Jesse completed a joint postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California - Davis and the Wharton Risk Center at the University of Pennsylvania, served as a consultant for the WAVES program at the World Bank, and worked as research scientist for the Natural Capital Project. Jesse holds a Ph.D. in natural resources from the University of Vermont and B.A. in environmental studies from Carleton College.
